LAST night after her uncontested "victory" in Florida, Hillary Clinton was introduced by... Alcee Hastings, removed from by the Senate in 1998 after impeachment from* in the House, under a heavy cloud of suspicion of bribery when he was a federal judge. (A bit of the colourful background here.) Bill Clinton pardoned Mr Hastings' alleged co-conspirator on his last day in office.

Doesn't Ms Clinton have any slightly less dodgy-looking Floridian backers? Or if slightly suspect they must be, ones whose former associates had not been pardoned from federal prison by her husband?

Fancy a sickie? See your chemist

It's amazing how many sickies are attached to weekends and public holidays.I was brought up, that you always went to work even if sick, then went home if it got worse. Often, it just got better as my body exercised. NO sickies on Gallipoli, or at Tobruk, or along the Kokoda Trail, or in Vietnam - unless you were totally incapacitated !Back then, BLUDGER was the worst insult you could call a bloke, now it's become a comical byword.

It all sounds a very good idea on paper, but human nature being what it is I feel (know) that it will be abused by a proportion of the public and also chemists.

Audits Sting Hospitals, Physicians

In coming weeks, private audit companies will begin scouring mountains of medical records. Their mission: Determine if health care providers erred when billing Medicare and require them to return any overpayments to the federal government. The auditors will keep a tidy percentage for their services. The contractors have shown they're pretty good at their work. In just three years, they've returned more than $300 million to the federal government - and that's just from three states. That experiment is winding down. But a larger, national program will soon take its place. .

Image Galleries in WordPress

When you need to present a product or a service through images in a few web pages, but you do not have the time to design the necessary HTML templates, you might be tempted to select a commercial ready made solution for your problem. Fortunately, free or open source alternatives exist. .

STOP McCAIN IN FLORIDA

To the extent that I understand how most Republicans think, it would seem that former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani comes closer to the Republican ideal than any of the other viable Republican candidates. They are all good and decent men who would be better for America than either of the Democratic front-runners. But it is difficult to see, from a conservative- and Republican-values perspective, what major shortcoming Giuliani brings as compared to the other candidates. And given the obsession of liberal news media with publishing negative reports about Giuliani and frequent praise of John McCain, it would appear that it is Giuliani whom Democrats most fear as the Republican presidential nominee.

On the "war on terror," no Republican contender but John McCain equals Giuliani in longtime efforts on behalf of that war or in understanding and articulating the threat radical Islam poses to America and to liberty on earth.

Britney's Over, Here Comes Alicia vs. Celine

In a word, they despise her. Jackson is so isolated, they claim, that he has no idea the amount of enmity she's caused.

Michael Jackson's fans, like those of Madonna, Mariah Carey and other pop stars, are his bread and butter. Fans clubs, which sound like something out of the 1940s, are often what keep careers going long after mass popularity has subsided.

For Jackson, his loyal, zealous fans have always been a source of comfort. Perhaps he's wondering now why he's so cut off from them.

One fan from Denmark wrote an e-mail, since purged from a Jackson Web site, describing Bain's reaction to fan interaction. The fan claimed that Bain responded to news of a big gift being sent to Jackson this way: "Michael is not interested in receiving any fan mail or fan gifts.

Ubuntu backer seeks open-source collaboration

Ubuntu Linux backer Canonical has launched a beta version of its Launchpad service, part of an effort to make open-source programming methods a better match for Microsoft.

Launchpad is a website that provides a foundation for Ubuntu's co-operative programming projects, with features for tracking bugs, managing source code repositories and planning new features. Canonical chief executive Mark Shuttleworth believes broader use could help marshal free and open-source software forces more effectively against Microsoft.

"Microsoft has an efficient core infrastructure that allows developers from one part of the company to connect with a developer on another," Shuttleworth said in an interview after the move last week. "In a free software world, if we want to match that, we have to crank up the level of collaboration."

Launchpad was founded to run the Ubuntu project, but it's now open to other projects.
