Cisco pumps $9.5M into SaaS Startup

Networking giant Cisco led a $9.5 funding round of two-year-old application hosting firm SoonR. The move announced on Tuesday is the latest in a series of investments Cisco has been making in small Web 2.0 software firms.

Facing a changing marketplace where business and personal productivity applications increasingly exist on the web, network hardware giant Cisco has spent about $4 billion in the last year acquiring software firms such as WebEx and Reactivity.

In the last year Cisco has acquired about a half-dozen software and service firms, and earmarked another billion dollars to dole out venture funds on small firms mostly in Silicon Valley, but occasionally in China, India and Russia.

The company has invested heavily in software and services startups such as China Communications Services and Russian e-commerce firm Ozon, and has taken an equity positions in Albaba.com.

Back up your computer files

Losing one file on your computer can be annoying and inconvenient; losing all the information on your computer can be catastrophic. If you haven't given any thought to backing up your computer drives, you may want to consider doing so. Information on your computer can be lost in many ways. Experiencing a power surge or outage, lightening, a child playing on the keyboard or simply equipment failure are just a few of the causes.Your first step will be to decide what to backup. A good start would be to have a "laundry" list of the files you consider to be important. You will find that this list will also be valuable if you need to recover a single lost or damaged file. Some recommended files to backup would be financial information, family photos, personal projects, email and email addresses, your Internet bookmarks, any software that has been paid for and downloaded from the Internet, music downloads, business forms and letters, your .com web site, in reality, anything you do not want to loose or cannot replace.Next you will need to decide on a method to store this information.

Zokora believes Spurs team-mate can be a big hit at the Lane

DIDIER Zokora has believes Spurs team-mate Younes Kaboul has a big future at White Hart Lane.

The French Under-21 has struggled at the north London club since joining from Auxerre in the summer, but Zokora believes the centre half has the talent to make a mark in the Premier League.

"I think that Younes has a strong character," Zokora told setantasports.com. "His debut in The Premier League has been difficult.

"But it's normal and I don't doubt over his chances to bounce back in the future."

The versatile African also revealed he is more than happy to fill in at the back for Tottenham as well as in midfield.

"I started to play at centre back at the age of 15 or 16 so I call it my natural position," he added.

Pop Go the Bubbles

The key, quite bluntly, is getting the plants in and across the desert to the Darfur region. Ed is very good at getting critical items to where they need to be in very difficult if not dangerous conditions. The stories he can tell.

At the same time, Dr. Jim Laws, a cardiologist and others will be going into Chad to work in refugee camps there; bringing medicine and medical help to a very desperate situation. They will be going there several times over the year.

Readers of my letter may be familiar with Walt Ratterman. I have mentioned his work in Thailand where he goes to refugee camps (mostly the minority Christian Karin tribe) along the Burma border, bringing solar power to clinics there. As one doctor said, it is hard to do an amputation by flashlight. They are now bringing in more powerful units capable of providing enough power for small medical devices, vaccine refrigeration, with power outlets that will allow them to operate a laboratory, a computer, and a surgical room that will accommodate minor surgery and cataract eye surgery.

Plans to Raze NIU Shooting Site Debated

Nothing has been introduced yet," Sen. Brad Burzynski said. "What that will entail at this point in time will probably not be what the governor envisioned."

Rep. Robert Pritchard said he has received calls from alumni, students and community members.

"People think the governor reacted too quickly and that he's calling for a solution that hasn't thoroughly been discussed so that people can understand it ... to see if the solution matches the need," he said.

The key issue, he said, is figuring out how to meet the university's need for classroom space.

Puterbaugh, the newspaper editor, said university officials may be interested in the replacement building because of the chance to get money after years of limited aid from state government.

Sparkling Wine

2005 Failla Estate Vineyard Sonoma Coast Syrah ($56) Ehren Jordan's day job as winemaker at Turley Wine Cellars keeps him plenty busy, but it's his own wines under the Failla label (his wife's name) that captivate us, including a Syrah from Napa's Phoenix Ranch. His new Syrah from Failla's estate vineyard on Gualala Ranch, along the Sonoma Coast, simply blew us away. A powerhouse nose of lavish white and black pepper, sweet game meat and hints of tar, touches of oak and ripe boysenberry give way to an edgy palate and nuanced, fine-grained finish. Simply extraordinary.

2005 Jaffurs Santa Barbara County Grenache ($28) Craig Jaffurs is better known for his Syrah, but here he has taken on the other great Rhone grape, and coaxed impressive berry and nutmeg and toasted spice flavors out of his fruit.

Although I won't be around, I'll at least try to make one of the games next year. I owe it to the Terps for four great years here. Maryland Football - 2008 Schedule Games to circle, apart from all of them? 8/30, vs FCS-runner-up Delaware. That's not as guaranteed as you think. 9/13, vs California - Maryland is 1 - 3 all time against the PAC-10, with no game being decided by more than seven points. 11/6 @ Virginia Tech - This game is never easy. At first glance, you'd think Maryland would start off with two wins, a loss, a win, two more losses, a split at home, a loss, a win, and two losses for a 5 - 7 record. But that's why they play the game, I guess. Maryland's baseball season, which I didn't post on at all last year, begins February 22 against Coastal Carolina. .
