Apple and Business — Is it 25 Years Too Late?

Posted in:

Open Source Personal Technology Hardware Infrastructure Apple Linux Microsoft Datacenter Utility computing Hewlett-Packard IBM Intel iPhone Red Hat Research In Motion VMware virtualization EMC RIM Sun Dell

Hey, Apple's releasing the Insanely Great iPhone SDK so we can all write enterprise iPhone applications! They're going to make the iPhone compete with the BlackBerry and hook it up to corporate Exchange email servers! Whoopee! Apple has a Business strategy!

Oy vey.

Look, I think it's great that Apple is finally doing something with the iPhone to make it into something that Crackberry addicts like myself might finally find as an attractive alternative.

Rain can't wash out tennis tourney

The Nature Coast Tennis Foundation held its third annual Junior Singles Championship at Delta Woods Park in Spring Hill this past weekend.

Weather trouble caused a move from Saturday to Sunday, but the rains held off long enough for the foundation to finish the tournament.

With 42 entries, tournament director Louise Downey characterized the turnout as "highly successful."

In the High School Girls final, Tamara Bustard defeated Alexa Burns in straight sets for the title, 7-5, 7-5.

The High School Boys title was arguably the match of the tournament. Lasting more than two hours, Anthony Carter ousted P.J. Waterson in a final set tiebreaker, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6.

In the Middle School divisions, the girls champion was Mallorie Pickersgill, who dominated Kayla Papp in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.

Apart from getting ten or fifteen bucks 15 years ago when I played as part of a pep band for an opening of one of their stores at Penn State, Wal-Mart has never paid me one red cent nor have anybody else associated with this project; I don't even like Wal-Mart, but can't stand hysterical idiots who demand we abandon the rule of law because they don't like a particular tenant.

Winter Storm Pounds Miami Valley, Driving Dangerous!

Roads in the metro-Dayton area appear to be wet, but a lot of highways and interstates have been the scene of numerous crashes because of slick road conditions.

Travel remains very hazardous. There are many counties that have issued snow emergencies, which means that motorists should travel only if necessary.

2 p.m. Update:
Roads continue to be slick across the region. The best thing to do is to drive carefully if you have to go out on the roadways. News Center 7's Gabrielle Enright said that a lot of people are still packing the stores in Xenia getting some last minute groceries.

Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson said road crews are going to be hampered by the strong winds and is going to make clearing the roads tough. Simpson said the best thing to do is to stay home and wait the storm out for the next 24 hours.

Unity under the sea: Google invests in new undersea cable

Google announced today that it plans to join five other international companies in building an additional undersea cable between the US and Japan. The need for the cable itself is unsurprising, given that trans-Pacific bandwidth needs grew by 63.7 percent between 2002 and 2007, but the fact that Google is joining the consortium of Bharti Airtel, Global Transit, KDDI Corporation, Pacnet, and SingTel is unusual. Google is insisting, however, that this new move does not signal a change in focus for the company.

According to Google Network acquisitions manager Francois Sterlin, "If you're wondering whether we're going into the undersea cable business, the answer is no," Sterlin wrote in the Official Google Blog. "We're not competing with telecom providers, but the volume of data we need to move around the world has grown to the point where in some cases we've exceeded the ability traditional players can offer."

Once completed, the newly-minted "Unity" five-fiber-pair cable will be capable of carrying up to 960Gbps per pair, or 4800Gbps across the entire cable.

To Be in Favour of Peace Is Not Anti-Israeli

The MSM press in the US censors(yes, I said CENSOR) any news of the ongoing debate in Israel about the actions of the Israeli government.

I told someone the other day that it was a nasty rumor that fervent Israeli zionists supporters owned all American media.

Upon reflection, it sometimes seems that way, but it really is not (?). However, intense pressure threatening Advertising boycotts by corporate and private interests if any even neutral story let alone a pro-palestinian or anti-Israeli news release about the conflict is contemplated, forces many outlets to pull such items - strongly resembling censorship.

Bernard Kerik Enters 'Not Guilty' Plea in Response to Federal ...

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Bernard Kerik, former New York City police commissioner and failed nominee to head the Department of Homeland Security, on Friday pleaded not guilty to federal corruption and tax fraud charges, which were announced in an unsealed indictment.

Kerik had surrendered to authorities earlier in the day, and entered his plea in federal district court shortly after noon.

- Click here to see the 29-page federal indictment of Bernard Kerik (.pdf).

In a news conference Friday with Justice Department and Internal Revenue Service officials, Kerik was painted as a man who used his position as New York's top cop, as well as the city jail commissioner, to gain financially. And officials said he lied to conceal shady dealings with mob-connected businessmen when he applied for his DHS job.

Rackspace backtracks over virtualisation

Global hosting company Rackspace has performed a volte-face on its virtualisation position, and will be hosting virtual servers after all. It controversially said in August 2007 that virtualisation was not yet ready for the big time and wouldn't save money.

Iowa To Host Olympic Trials

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) _ The Olympic trials are coming to Iowa. Des Moines has been selected as a host site for the Summer Olympic trials for tae kwon do.

The trials, set for April, will determine the final three spots on the four-member U.S. team headed for China in August.

The bouts will be held as part of USA Taekwondo's national juniors qualifying event on April 4th and 5th. The trials will mark what is believed to be the first time the state has hosted a final Olympic qualifying event. It comes less than three months before another, the Hy-Vee Triathlon in June.

Clinton and Obama remain in tough fight as McCain coasts

All of Hillary's business and political success has been predicated on her husband's political position at the time. The one time we all know Hillary was put in charge of something (by her President husband no less), Universal Health Care, she, thanks be to God, failed miserably. As far as I see, she has no rhetoric and no results.

Having Hillary as a woman President for a change is not change enough.
