| Update: Library Has 10 Copies of "Water for Elephants"
No Zags: Candidate endorsement is one of the most antiquated and soon-to-be-extinct functions of the newspaper industry. In a world where anybody can publish any opinion they want and anyone can read it, it seems pretty silly that the "wise old minds" of an editorial board still feel the need to put a newspaper's stamp of approval on a political position. Endorsements are relics of the old-journalism past, as are editorials. Question: I'm curious about the last sentence of No Zags' comment. Are editorials, indeed, relics. Or are the still important contributions to the public dialogue -- and help form community opinion? .
Asus’ 8.9″ Eee draws crowds at CeBIT
Here in CeBIT 2008, crowds descended on Hannover Germany to see the latest technologies. Germany is certainly a lovely country but there's nothing lovable about the 5.60 Euro per gallon gas prices. CeBIT is certainly one of the more unique conventions I've been to since everything is spread out over a square kilometer and it's like going to 10 mini conventions. While you get some outdoor air between the halls, don't expect any fresh air with all the smokers there. The temperature delta certainly makes proper attire a challenge because it's too warm inside and freezing outside. Asus had a massive presence in building 26 which is one of the more popular spots at CeBIT and they managed to draw crowds wanting to get a closer look at the new and improved 8.9″ Asus Eee PC.

LIVE BLOG: Apex Beating Britt 33-31 Going Into Fourth
I'm here inside Minges Coliseum now, and I'll be keeping you up-to-date on what's going on in the Apex vs. Jack Britt game. The favorite here has to be Britt, but Apex's magical run through the playoffs could continue. I think we're going to see a very good game here, but the thing I'm looking for is how the height of the Bucs impacts how Apex plays their game. We'll see soon enough. The clock shows 1:35 before the start of the game, we'll have a little longer than that, though. Just an update - Wakefield was knocked out of the playoffs this afternoon with a 66-53 loss to Westover. More on that coming later today. 9:37 AM: Well, I'm still in Raleigh at this point, but we're preparing to head out to Pitt County to cover the final day of the Eastern Regionals. We will have coverage of both local games: Wakefield vs.
CAN 2008 to enjoy uninterrupted power - VRA
Accra, Jan. 18, GNA - The Volta River Authority (VRA) on Thursday said it was fully prepared to provide adequate uninterrupted power supply throughout the African Cup of Nations Tournament the country was hosting. The Authority told the Ghana News Agency that: "VRA has made adequate arrangements such as the provision of generating sets to serve as standby power plants at all the four stadia in the country for the tournament to start this Sunday January 20." Mrs. Gertrude Koomson, of the Corporate Affairs Department of the VRA, who gave the assurance said technicians to man the various equipment have been given orientation to effectively carry out their duties. She said, "even though the VRA is currently running two to three turbines at Akosombo, it can conveniently operate all the six turbines when the need arises given the water level as at today." The VRA official said Ghanaians and their brothers and sisters from other African nations would have enough power to enjoy their football matches but added: "This is the time that we should also know that conservation of energy is key." "The 550 Megawatts (MW) Thermal Plants at Aboadze, Government's Emergency Power Programme are all in place to ensure uninterrupted supply," Mrs Koomson said.
The Nanny Campaigns For Clinton
Nydia Velasquez and Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion at the Ambar Room. In advance of that last event, Clinton's campaign announced she had been endorsed by Latina PAC, a New York-based group of professional Hispanic women, who, as Azi reports, were not upset about her position on Gov. Eliot Spitzer's now-defunct plan to let illegal immigrants get driver's licenses. .
BUILDERS DO LOTS OF RESEARCH
An option gives the company the right to buy the land at an agreed-upon price within a certain time limit, said Garrett Hinds, Trumark's architectural director. Market research comes next. It involves identifying potential buyers - the Homebuyer family, Ms. Homeshopper or someone else - and their budget. To find that information, researchers get demographic information from the city, the latest U.S. census and the state Finance Department. How old are the would-be buyers? What's their ethnicity? What's their household structure - single, couple, number of children, multi-generation? Are they first-time buyers, move-up buyers or downsizers? Each factor influences what's built. For example, the Olson Co. caters to first-time buyers or buyers moving up to their second home.
