| ARI 1Q profit, revenue rises
ARI Network Services Inc. reported Monday that it recorded increases in both profit and revenue for the fiscal first quarter. ARI (OTCBB: ARIS) posted net income for the quarter ended Oct. 31 of $243,000, or 4 cents per share, compared with $225,000, or 3 cents per share, for the same period a year ago. Revenue for the Milwaukee provider of electronic parts catalogs and marketing services increased 21 percent to $4.2 million from $3.5 million. ARI chairman and CEO Brian Dearing said the marketing services business continued to drive revenue growth. About 45 percent of the revenue growth was because of the acquisition of OC-Net Inc., a Cypress, Calif. company that provides Web hosting and e-commerce services, in January 2007. .

MIAMI, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Four men were arrested Friday in the fatal shooting of Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor and a police official said they would be charged with murder. Taylor was shot early Monday in the bedroom of his Palmetto Bay, Fla., home. The bullet struck Taylor in the groin, severing his femoral artery and causing a massive loss of blood. He died early Tuesday in a Miami hospital. Robert Parker, director of the Miami-Dade County Police Department, named those arrested as Venjah Hunte, Jason Mitchell, Charles Wardlow and Eric Rivera Jr. They were between the ages of 17 and 20. "We had pretty conclusive tips of information as to who the involved parties were," Parker said. "Who cares what they went there to do. They're re going to be charged with murder." Taylor was the fifth overall pick of the 2004 NFL Draft and he made the Pro Bowl for the first time last season.
US elections 2004
For supporters of John Kerry, who have seen allegations about the Democratic candidate's military record sap his campaign, it must have seemed like a case of just deserts. The president, George Bush, was last week looking vulnerable on the same grounds after CBS's flagship current affairs show, 60 Minutes, broadcast a report claiming he had been suspended from pilot duties for failing to meet the required standards. It was also claimed that a commanding officer had been put under pressure to "sugar coat" Mr Bush's performance reviews. But while CBS stands by its story, allegations have now surfaced that 60 Minutes based a large part of the report on forged documents. Although what one man - even a presidential candidate - did more than 30 years ago can seem rather trivial, the US election is being fought between a self-declared "war president" and a man who, in stump speeches, claims he would defend his country as president in the way he had defended it as a young man.

Between the Lines Latest Post | Last 10 Posts | Archives Jotspot is back (as Google Sites); It's still a wiki Posted in: General Web Technology Google Enterprise 2.0 Google acquired Jotspot in 2006 and then let it disappear. But the company didn't totally give up on the hosted wiki application and has rebranded it Google Sites. As Dan Farber notes, Google Sites is another cog in that Google Apps suite. Rafe Needleman finds it curious that Google Sites doesn't mention the word wiki anywhere. That observation is keen. Perhaps wiki is too geeky. Perhaps Google thought a name like Google Sites was better than Jotspot. Frankly, none of this rebranding works all that well. It's still not clear what Google Sites is about judging from its name.

Minister dismisses more tax power for Holyrood
Launching the commission last year, Ms Alexander proposed significant new powers for Scotland to set levels of some taxes and to be assigned a share of other taxes set in London. However, when it was suggested to Mr Cairns that he was not keen on giving more tax powers to the Scottish Parliament and that it was up to Holyrood to make the case, he replied: "Yes. The government's position is, is that we think the current fiscal arrangements benefit Scotland, that there are stable, transparent increases in public spending in Scotland. There is no case for the massive restructuring of that. In any case, the Scottish Parliament has powers to levy additional taxes if they think that's what they need and they haven't used them. He added: "I want to reframe this argument.

The automaker is in the process of being remade by CEO Robert Nardelli, who was technology savvy as leader of Home Depot. This time around Nardelli appears to be leaning on outsourcing its IT in contrast to his approach at Home Depot. Under the pact, Tata will provide support, maintenance and services that "will encompass a portion of the functional areas within Chrysler, such as Sales and Marketing and Shared Services." posted by Larry Dignan February 20, 2008 @ 5:50 am Last 10 posts: EIC Podcast: iPhone and business; Mix '08 wrap; Facebook's new hire (03-07) Sprint and T-Mobile: A disaster in waiting (03-07) Digg: Better off with Microsoft or Google? Allton Starts Web Design Firm in Lake Saint Louis, MO
Michael Allton can still remember his first website. "It was 1997, and my mother had just formed a new non-profit organization in Norwalk, Ohio called Project Leadership. It was designed to promote leadership and community values and she wanted a website to help recruit members. I used FrontPage 97 and it was very basic, but it sparked my love for website design." Since then, Michael has come a long way. For several years, he designed websites for businesses and organizations in Ohio while with an IT Firm. Then, last year, after moving to Lake Saint Louis, he started his own design firm, Stadia Studio. "I wanted very much to get back into designing websites for small businesses," said Michael. "I've always enjoyed helping businesses grow, and having a great website is an integral part of that." Stadia Studio specializes in providing small businesses with complete web services including website design, hosting, search engine optimization and consulting.
Cisco pumps $9.5M into SaaS Startup
Networking giant Cisco led a $9.5 funding round of two-year-old application hosting firm SoonR. The move announced on Tuesday is the latest in a series of investments Cisco has been making in small Web 2.0 software firms. Facing a changing marketplace where business and personal productivity applications increasingly exist on the web, network hardware giant Cisco has spent about $4 billion in the last year acquiring software firms such as WebEx and Reactivity. In the last year Cisco has acquired about a half-dozen software and service firms, and earmarked another billion dollars to dole out venture funds on small firms mostly in Silicon Valley, but occasionally in China, India and Russia. The company has invested heavily in software and services startups such as China Communications Services and Russian e-commerce firm Ozon, and has taken an equity positions in Albaba.com.
